SPS Talk: Marla Geha, Yale University, “The Darkest Galaxies”

February 19, 2013

Yale Society of Physics Students presents “The Darkest Galaxies” by Marla Geha. The inventory of low mass galaxy satellites in orbit around the Milky Way Galaxy has doubled since 2005. These newly discovered “ultra-fain” galaxies are less luminous than any other known galaxy and have emerged as the most dark matter-dominated galaxies in the universe. I will discuss on-going research to use these extreme galaxies to test models of galaxy formation, cosmology, and the nature of dark matter. Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 1PM in SPL 3rd Floor Lounge.
