Barkotel Zemenu (Physics-Intensive ‘24) carried out astrophysics research this summer at Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, Israel, as part of the Kupcinet-Getz International Summer School. Using the Large Array Survey Telescope (LAST) at the Israeli Negev desert, his research focused on short-term variability, where he developed a novel program that automates the identification of variable stars from a LAST image. In addition to submitting a 20-page whitepaper detailing his work, he presented his findings to the Weizmann community on August 6.
