Shoumik Chowdhury (YC’2021 Mathematics & Physics major) has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Chowdhury has been a co-president of the Yale chapter of the Society of Physics Students since Spring 2019 and is a one of the inaugural class of Sigma Pi Sigma (the Physics honor society) members from Yale University.

From his advisor, Steven Girvin, Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics, “Shoumik Chowdhury came to Yale with a strong interest in the new field of quantum information science and he is one of the leaders of the newly formed and rapidly growing Yale Undergrad Quantum Computing (YuQC) group. It has been a pleasure to watch him advance his knowledge as he has participated in faculty research projects throughout his time at Yale, and the award of this highly competitive NSF Graduate Fellowship will be a great asset as he moves on to graduate studies next year.”

The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP) helps ensure the vitality of the human resource base of science and engineering in the United States and reinforces its diversity. The program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines who are pursuing research-based master’s and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
